Russia’s gas transit via Ukraine to depend on competitiveness

MOSCOW, Oct 4 (PRIME) -- Russia will continue to transport its natural gas to Europe through Ukraine after 2019 after all legal disputes have been settled, but the transit volume will depend on competitiveness of the country’s gas transportation system, Energy Minister Alexander Novak told PRIME late on Wednesday.

“We have to take several factors into account while pumping gas through the Ukrainian gas transportation system,” Novak said.

“We assume that these supplies should be competitive from the point of view of the transportation tariff…We are ready to continue transit through the Ukrainian system if it is commercially attractive and if the disputes that we have between Gazprom and Naftogaz are settled. The volume may vary depending on competitiveness of the Ukrainian gas transportation system.”
